COFFEE SHOP MEETINGS

It had been a while since the last time. She was nervous and the butterflies in her stomach wouldn’t stop for anything. It was a good feeling though. She thought it was anyways. She was scared as well. So many anxious thoughts running through her head. She didn’t think anyone would want to get to know this broken damaged girl. She carried a lot of baggage and all she wanted was for someone to help her carry it.

Her hands shook as she put the car in park. It was a cool fall night. The air was crisp and the sun has already set over the horizon. She silently watched the cars go by trying to stall a little bit longer. She checked her hair again and straightened out her clothes. It was still a little early but she got up anyways trying to push the worries away. She got up out of the car and started toward the shop. Her walk was determined and strong but broken in a way as she glanced around nervously. The shop was busy as busy as a book store could be. The smell of newly printed paper and coffee was comforting. This was a familiar place. There was soft music playing in the background. A few people laughing and humming along. This was where they were meeting. This was where she would meet him for the first time. There was small talk here and there were questions about life and what was going on in general. The first time meeting is a feeling of nerves and excitement of what is to come. There’s also hope from it. Hope that something will blossom from it.

A few more minutes passed. The teen fantasy section was a place she felt the most at home. So she waited…..

It was when she looked up and saw him she knew. She couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face. It was then a sudden calmness spread over her. A happiness. All of her worries were gone in that second of seeing him. No hellos were exchanged and they didn’t need to be. It was like they had been saying hello for a long time. There was some nervous laughing and smiling and questions. Coffee followed and many more questions after that. When there was silence it was nice and comfortable; never awkward. Hours went by but it felt like seconds. The night had flown by right before their eyes. She didn’t want it to end. There was only talking that was exchanged and that was all she needed. She was happy. A feeling that had been lost for a long time. A hug goodbye and a smile to end the night. The air was cold but she felt warm inside. She couldn’t wait to see him again but she knew to be patient because there would be many more coffee shop meetings…..
